Walt Disney World adds Apple Pay, Google Wallet acceptance

Disney will leverage the contactless infrastructure it already has in place for the MagicBand.

The Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando will begin accepting Apple Pay, Google Wallet and other contactless payment cards on Christmas Eve, giving visitors another contactless payment option in addition to the theme park's own MagicBand bracelet.

WDWMagic reported the news Sunday. Disney will leverage the contactless infrastructure it already has in place for the MagicBand, which has the ability to function as a room key, theme park ticket and payment account.

Disney said in a statement that contactless support for Apple Pay, Google Wallet and payment cards can be found initially at most stores, quick service restaurants, bars and ticket sales booths.

"Any locations that use portable payment terminals, such as table service restaurants, will be added later," the company said.

Disney plans to bring contactless payments to the Disneyland Resort in California sometime in 2015.

Apple announced Disney as an initial Apple Pay partner in September when the system was first announced. At the time, it was expected that Disney would accept Apple Pay at its retail locations in the U.S.
