Visa, Mastercard other card networks begin EMV SRC rollout for easier online checkout

American Express, Visa, Mastercard and Discover announced the arrival of more secure checkout experiences due to the long-awaited implementation of the EMV Secure Remote Commerce standard that will create a simplified way for consumers to pay across the web, through mobile apps and other connected devices, according to a release from Mastercard..

The four leading card networks have tested SRC technology across various issuers and merchants and will be able to click-to-pay at various merchants across the U.S. starting this month, with wider access starting in early 2020.

The technology will allow consumers a simplified way to buy online, without the need to create new online accounts with the merchant or log in every time they shop.

The first merchants to use the click-to-pay technology are Cinemark, Movember and Rakuten, while other merchants, including Bass Pro, JoAnn Fabric and Crafts, Saks Fifth Avenue, SHOP.com, Staples and Tickets.com, will be using the technology by the end of 2019.

"We are always looking for ways to enhance the cinema experience and provide a simpler, streamlined checkout for ticket buying is always a part of that," Doug Fay, chief technology officer at Cinemark, said in the release. "We think the added convenience and security will help build loyalty, grow our business and make for quicker checkouts, giving moviegoers the most enjoyable experience possible."

Payment platforms and processors like Ayden, Authorize.Net, CyberSource-Visa solutions, FIS, Global Payments, Mastercard Payment Gateway Services and Stripe are currently offering the click-to-pay technology. However, the initial focus of the click-to-pay technology will be on converting existing Masterpass and Visa checkout merchants to click-to-pay.
