Visa adds Overstock.com to V.me digital wallet

Visa Inc. is adding partners to its V.me digital wallet, announcing that online discount retailer Overstock.com Inc. now accepts V.me by Visa payments. Overstock joins retailers such as 1-800-FLOWERS.com, LivingSocial and 31 other merchants who have begun accepting V.me at checkout since the digital wallet was announced last year.

With V.me as a payment option, consumers need only log into their V.me account with a username and password to populate required fields on a checkout screen. The digital wallet provides information such as payment credentials, billing address and shipping address, making it simpler to buy on mobile devices whose small screens and tiny keyboards can be frustrating to shoppers.

Overstock.com is one of the largest retailers online with more than $1 billion in annual sales.

"Overstock.com is a prime example of a top online merchant understanding the importance of a simple and secure checkout experience," said Jennifer Schulz, global head of e-commerce at Visa Inc. "Delivering V.me to Overstock.com visitors means eliminating the time and hassle at checkout, time we'd all much rather spend shopping for great Overstock.com deals."

Visa said it continues to make next-generation commerce a reality with V.me and already has 64 financial institutions as partners in the effort. The V.me digital wallet service is free for consumers to sign-up and use.
