The FTC to look at mobile payments

The Federal Trade Commission will host a workshop April 26, 2012, looking at mobile payments in the marketplace and how that technology may impact consumers. The workshop will bring together consumer advocates, industry representatives, government regulators, technologists and academics, the announcement said.

Among the topics to be discussed are consumer risks and security issues, the technologies used to make mobile payments, collection of personal data and the implementation of mobile payments in other countries.

The FTC is calling for comments from the public to aid in preparing the workshop. Comments, including original research, surveys and academic papers, can be made at https://ftcpublic.commentworks.com/ftc/mobilepayments or delivered to 600 Pennsylvania Avenue N.W., Room H-113 (Annex B), Washington, DC 20580.

The workshop is free and open to the public and is at the FTC's Satellite Building Conference Center, 601 New Jersey Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C.
