Swiss phone subscribers top up at kiosks

Mobile Software Provider Sicap and Telecoms Provider Swisscom have launched a contactless in-store kiosk to allow pre-paid subscribers to top up their phones.

According to Near Field Communications World, the NFC feature of the kiosk allows customers to top up NFC phones and standard phones equipped with an RFID sticker without having to enter their phone numbers.

The main Swisscom store in Bern is the site of a pilot kiosk introduced in October. According the the story, the kiosk has reduced in-store waiting time and allowed staff to spend time on more complex customer service work.

The pilot has now been extended to two other cities, Zurich and Lausanne.

"Based on good customer feedback, we are planning to roll out more Sicap in-store reload kiosks," said Swisscom's Alexandra Reich in the story.

Sicap's Aleeda Fazal said the reload kiosk is part of the company's micro-payment processing offer.

"We are proud to associate a rapid return on investment with the potential for evolution of the solution to include more commercial offers and more technology options," he said
