Subway tests self-order kiosks that include Apple Pay, Samsung Pay

Subway has formally announced its "fresh forward" design that includes self-order kiosks in 12 pilot locations, along with digital menu boards and Samsung Pay and Apple Pay options.

"We've created a modern design that gives our guests choices – from how they order to how they pick up their food to how they enjoy their meal," Trevor Haynes, vice president of operations, said in a Subway press release.

There are 12 pilot locations in the U.S., Canada and the U.K.: Tamarac, Florida; Orlando, Florida (2); Winter Park, Florida; Chula Vista, California; Knoxville, Tennessee; Palmview, Texas; Hillsboro, Oregon; Vancouver, Washington; Beauport, Quebec Canada; Granby, Quebec Canada; and Manchester, United Kingdom.

The chain already supports Apple Pay, but only for conventional orders, according to appleinsider.com.

The pick-up space will also handle preorders made through the company's iPhone app, which is being updated with its own Apple Pay compatibility. Mobile users have to manually add a credit, debit or a Subway gift card.
