Study from mopay shows mobile payment conversion rates double in 2010

Mobile payment provider mopay Inc. announced that mobile payments in North America experienced an unprecedented rise in adoption in 2010, with conversion rates almost doubling within one year. Mopay attributed the growth to improved carrier agreements, easier integration, optimized usability and growing general acceptance amongst consumers.

Conclusions in mopay's study were based on analysis the company conducted on data from its international mobile payments platform and conversion rates, transaction values and transaction numbers accumulated in more than 80 countries.

The mopay announcement also said the company found that other regions around the globe are seeing increased adoption of mobile payments and higher conversion rates. Central and South America gained significantly in mopay's rankings, matching Australia behind Asia and Europe.

Additional findings of the analysis show that mobile payments tend to be used for transactions within a range of $2.50 to $10.00. The analysis found only three percent of all offers were less than $2.50 and only two percent were more than $14.00. However, even though the per transaction value tended to be small, consumers regularly spend up to $50.00 per month using mobile payments due to a high percentage of customers using mobile payments multiple times during the month.

"Mopay’s large country coverage and high transaction volume allows us to run in-depth analysis on the mobile payment habits of consumers from a global to a local level," said Kolja Reiss, managing director of mopay Inc.Â
