Skrill makes payments on mobile devices easier

Skrill, a U.K.-based digital wallet provider, announced it is launching a product meant to make online purchases through a mobile device easier. The new Skrill 1-Tap connects to Skrill's digital wallet and lets users enter payment details on participating merchant sites with one click rather than having to re-enter any log-in credentials and credit card information.

"With new the smartphone revolution, m-commerce has finally the potential to really take off," said Martin Ott, co-CEO at Skrill, in the announcement. "But the truth is that, for many on-the-go consumers, the idea of using their mobile to enter payment information appears difficult and time-consuming."

Ott said Skrill 1-Tap will change that perception by giving merchants a solution that makes m-commerce more convenient for consumers and opening up a new business channel.

To use Skrill 1-Tap, customers enter their personal information the first time they make a payment via Skrill with an enabled merchant. On every future purchase, the one-tap functionality will be enabled with that merchant.

Along with Skrill 1-Tap, Skrill also announced the launch of an extension to its Quick Checkout Enterprise payment suite. The new extenision enables direct card processing using an HTML5 payment gateway specifically targeted at mobile devices. Using the gateway, merchants can process payments on any mobile device, either with a mobile website or application. Additionally, the gateway automatically resizes to the device to provide a better experience for shoppers, the company said.

Skrill has more than 20 million customers worldwide, has more than 100,000 merchants and is used by global brands, including Skype, eBay and Facebook.
