Shopify launches mobile app for online ordering amid COVID-19 lockdown

Shopify Inc. is launching a consumer mobile app called Shop, which lets customers get a comprehensive e-commerce experience at a time when millions of consumers are being forced to adhere to social distancing measures due to COVID-19.

The app allows consumers to find and browse through retail stores, get relevant product recommendations, check out purchases and track online orders, according to a press release.

"Shopify has focused the last decade on solving complex problems for entrepreneurs by making commerce seamless and accessible," Carl Rivera, general manager of Shop, said in the release. "Now we want to do the same thing for customers."

He said the app is designed to deal with the common pain points of customers trying to conduct online purchases in this environment and incorporates a number of proven features from the company’s Shop Pay accelerated checkout service and Arrive, an order tracking system.
