Shopgate e-book offers tip to help m-commerce sites grow holiday sales

Retailers who want to increase holiday sales should consider launching a mobile shopping website or app, according to the mobile commerce solutions provider Shopgate.

That maxim is one of several tips in Shopgate's "2013 Holiday Guide for Online Retailers: Top 10 Practices & Monthly Checklist," a new 14-page e-book with strategies, marketing tips and a monthly checklist to guide online retailers as they prepare for the 2013 holiday shopping season.

With m-commerce expected to be one of the largest drivers of U.S. holiday e-commerce sales growth this year, the company said, retailers who don't offer a mobile-friendly online shop will miss opportunities.

Nearly two-thirds of consumers have a better opinion of brands that offer a good mobile experience, the company said in a news release, while more than 60 percent of shopping carts are abandoned on mobile because of a bad user experience.

In 2013, m-commerce is predicted to make up 16 percent of all e-commerce sales, surpassing $42 billion, the company said.

"Considering that 2013 m-commerce holiday sales are projected to surpass $9 billion, over 15 percent of all e-commerce holiday sales, online merchants have no choice but to go mobile this season if they are serious about maximizing online sales," Andrea Anderheggen, Shopgate founder and CEO, said in a news release.

In addition to m-commerce, Shopgate's e-book offers best practices for overall customer support, website design, shipping deadlines, special offers and product promotion during the 2013 holiday shopping season.
