Subway commuters in Shanghai soon will be able to use a new mobile app to pay for fare via a QR code, according to a report from Caixin. 

The Shanghai Shentong Metro Group has installed QR code reader at turnstiles in all 389 stations in the city to prepare for Saturday's the launch. The new app, which is called Metro daduhui, will connect to payments systems from Alipay and China UnionPay.

To encourage use, the transit agency is discount rides starting Saturday through February.
