PXT Money wants to play ball to attract new customers

It's baseball season once again and mobile payment company PXT is looking to celebrate Fenway Park's centenniel season and attract some new customers. The company is hosting a party at Jerry Remy's Sports Bar & Grill in Boston, Mass. on April 12, where attendees can win prizes and hang out with Red Sox catcher Jarrod "Salty" Saltalamacchia.

The hook for the party is that anyone paying with a PXT Money account saves $10 off of the $25 ticket price and gets a $20 gift. That's a bonus of $5 just to use the app.

PXT Money is a prepaid mobile and digital account that lets consumers pay using the PXT Money app. They simply give their cellphone number to merchants accepting PXT Money and confirm a purchase using a PIN sent to their phone.

The company has used other sports-related offers to lure new customers. Fans of Boston University's hockey team recently were offered $5 to create PXT Money accounts. The money was automatically deposited into their account and could be used for purchases at local bars and restaurants around Agganis Arena, home of the mighty BU Terrier hockey team.

Bonus Mobile Payment Today factoid: At 14 letters, Saltalamacchia's last name holds the current record for longest last name in major league sports.
