PayPal to open Manhattan pop-up store to highlight its offline offerings

According to TechCrunch, PayPal is looking to open a temporary "pop up" store in New York City's Tribeca neighborhood next month. The article says the locations will allow merchants to view PayPal's new in-store payment products in a more realistic setting.

The PayPal location will be open approximately three and a half months, according to the story. (The annual National Retail Federation conference and expo, a yearly event where the nation's retailers convene to look at new technologies and solutions, will be in New York City from January 15 through January 18, 2012.)

PayPal announced it is pursuing new offline strategies last month. The company also released a video demonstrating use cases for consumers using PayPal accounts to shop at brick-and-mortar retailers. The company has to this point released little information about how it will gain access to offline merchants at the point of sale, only saying that its plans do not include NFC, and the pop up store may be an attempt to begin providing those details.
