Payelp, Qiwi offer virtual prepaid card

Woodland Hills, Calif.-based payment gateway provider Payelp Global is partnering with Qiwi, an electronic and mobile money provider catering to eastern European markets, to introduce a new virtual prepaid card. The product will be offered to Payelp merchants looking to sell their products in markets where credit cards are not prevalent. With the new virtual prepaid card the merchant can offer both the product and the payment method to potential customers.

The "card," called the Qiwi Virtual Visa, comes complete with a CVV2 code and is an option for people in cash-dominated markets or those who don't want to expose credit card information online, the company said. The card can be funded either through either a mobile phone or one of Qiwi’s 110,000 self-service payment kiosks in 16 countries worldwide.

"The Qiwi Virtual Visa is a revolutionary product that is changing the way online payments are being made," said Albert Donahue, CEO of Payelp Global, in an announcement.

"The Qiwi Virtual Visa is the perfect solution for the millions of online shoppers who want to buy goods online, but cannot because they do not have a credit card or are not comfortable using their card online," Donahue added.
