PayDragon adds grocery shopping to its line-busting app

PayDragon, the app launched earlier this year to provide restaurants and food trucks a line-busting mobile payment option, is spreading its wings, so to speak. The company has announced its newest feature, Checkout, a shopping function that lets users make impulse purchases of groceries and sundries through the PayDragon app and have them delivered via free two-day shipping with no required minimum purchase.

"PayDragon has always been about intelligently using technology for speed and convenience," said company founder and CEO, Hamilton Chan, in the announcement. "With our new Checkout feature, forgetting to buy things becomes a thing of the past. Errands can be handled with a simple scan and one tap."

Available to both iPhone and Android smartphone users, Checkout lets consumers scan an item's barcode to search for non-perishables such as soaps and cereal. The item is then shipped to any physical address in the continental United States — free. And since there's no shipping or minimum order, there's no need to build a shopping cart or bundle orders. The purchase is billed to the payment method stored within the app.

Other features of Checkout include:

  • A game layer where users earn points when they make a purchase. Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond users earn a discount of 1.5 percent to 5 percent on subsequent orders.
  • Referral rewards that earn the user a $2 credit if they refer a new customer who makes a purchase through Checkout.
  • Archived receipts of all transactions help users keep track of their purchases; a handy feature for health savings accounts and taxes.

"Checkout is the newest extension of our vision and, quite simply, gives you the freedom to shop the world," Chan said.
