Nippon Platform, Nets to test QR code payment at Japanese merchants

Nippon Platform Group is partnering with Singapore's Nets to test mobile payments using Nets QR code payment in Japan, according to a press release.

The pilot program will help local shops accept payments from Singaporean tourists.

Consumers will be able to use Nets Pay, DBS PayLah!, OCBC Pay Anyone or UOB Mighty mobile apps to scan the QR code that is displayed on Nippon tablet apps. Nippon tablet, a subsidiary of Nippon Platform, will offer free tablet rental to small and medium-sized companies.

Nippon Platform said it will provide a free API to Japanese settlement companies and point-of-sale system to developers as the master license holder.

The company said Amazon Pay, NTT Docomo'd Pay, pring, Pay ID, WeChat Pay, Alipay, Nets Pay currently work with the tablets, and it plans to expand the number of business partnerships with 10 more payment brands by May 2019, according to the release.
