New Heartland mobile payments app will let parents manage school-related fees via smartphone, tablet

Heartland School Solutions, a provider of child nutrition management and secure online payment solutions to U.S. public and private schools, has launched a mobile payments application that allows parents of school-aged children to manage school-related fees from smartphones and tablets. The mySchoolBucks app is available on Apple iOS and Android and provides parents with convenient access to fees such as meals, tuition, lab or library, athletic or club or sporting events, the company said in a news release.

The app, a secure PCI-DSS- and Visa CISP-compliant online prepayment system for school payments, allows parents to replenish their child's account using credit cards, debit cards or electronic checks, and to view recent activity. They can also view current account balances and student meal purchases, arrange recurring payments when their account reaches a low balance threshold, and set daily or weekly spending limits.

Heartland School Solutions is a division of Heartland Payment Systems Inc. The mySchoolBucks app is Heartland School Solutions' second K-12 app release, following its recent launch of the MyLunchMoney.com app, which allows parents to pay for student school lunches.

"Knowing parents are busier than ever, the mySchoolBucks mobile app lets participating districts offer a convenient service to parents, encouraging greater participation in their school meal programs," Michael A. Lawler, president, strategic markets group, Heartland Payment Systems, said in the release. "The app also helps increase flexibility, convenience and control for parents looking to pay for their child's school meals and school activity fees. For schools and districts, our mySchoolBucks solution reduces cash and check handling while tightening cash controls, allowing schools to reduce administrative costs and risks associated with students carrying cash and checks to school. It also speeds up lunch lines, thereby increasing the number of meals served."

MySchoolBucks is utilized by more than 2,000 school districts across the country, the company said.
