Mt. Gox finds some missing bitcoins

Mt. Gox, the Japan-based Bitcoin exchange that filed for bankruptcy last month, said in a statement late Thursday it found some 200,000 bitcoins worth about $114 million in an old digital storage file.

The company's discovery represents about 24 percent of the bitcoins Mt. Gox lost when the exchange failed in what was one of the biggest stories of the year surrounding the digital currency.

The exchange began examining digital wallets that were used before June 2011 when it found the missing bitcoins, Mt. Gox said.

"Please note that the reasons for their disappearance and the exact number of Bitcoins which disappeared are still under investigation," Mt. Gox said in the statement.
