Monitise completes Clairmail acquisition

U.K.-based mobile banking and payments company Monitise plc announced it has completed its acquisition of Clairmail Inc., a mobile banking company headquartered in California. The deal was originally announced in March 2012.

Together, the two companies will provide mobile money services to more than 15 million registered users, processing more than a billion transactions worth $15 billion a year, Monitise said.

Clients of the combined entity include Visa Inc. and Visa Europe, FIS, Fifth Third Bank, US Bank and Royal Bank of Scotland, the company said. Also on the list are HSBC, Lloyds TSB, Co-operative Banking Group, Sallie Mae, PNC Bank, Frost National Bank, Standard Chartered, Permata Bank and HDFC Bank among others.

"We are now handling over 100 million transactions a month as consumers benefit from always-on mobile access to their finances," said Monitise Group Chief Executive Alastair Lukies. "We remain on track for a strong trading year and will be further strengthened next year by our acquisition of Clairmail."
