Moneris goes wireless for new chip-and-PIN mPOS reader
Moneris, a Canadian debit and credit card processor, is set to roll out PAYD PRO, which it said is the first mobile POS system to use chip-and-PIN technology.
Many mobile POS solutions plug directly into a smartphone, but PAYD Pro uses Bluetooth technology to connect a companion device to iOS and Android phones. As such, the company said, the companion device — about the size of a typical smartphone — does not need to be physically connected to a smartphone. The solution also offers a suite of m-commerce management tools, including the ability to track transactions from mobile devices and send receipts via email.
The company said PAYD PRO encrypts card data at the time of transaction and allows merchants to securely access transactions, accounts and history, while the portable device leverages Bluetooth encryption to provide a secure connection, while prohibiting unauthorized devices from accessing the tool and the information channeled through it.
The service will be available in February.
