InfoBip to offer direct carrier billing through merchant services provider IPS

Carrier biller Infobip is partnering with merchant services provider International Processing Solution to offer mobile billing services, meaning IPS' merchants will have the option of letting customers pay for digital goods by placing the charge on their monthly phone bills.

IPS said it will be using Infobip's Centili mobile payments platform to enable direct carrier billing for its merchants. With the Centili platform, IPS merchants will be able to integrate features like a subscription management system and in-app payments through a quick process.

Direct carrier billing is already popular for digital content producers, especially social media and gaming sites, as it lets consumers without access to banking or credit accounts to make electronic payments. What makes the Infobip deal with IPS interesting is that carrier billing hasn't been a service offered by most merchant services providers, which usually stick to offering credit and debit card acceptance.

"We are excited about the arrangement with IPS," Infobip CEO Silvio Kutic said. "Together we can help merchants in worldwide monetization of their digital goods in only a few simple steps."

The IPS integration with Infobip's payment platform is already complete and available to IPS' global merchants. Those merchants will be able to use and combine carrier billing with the other payment options they are already using, the company said.

"We expect to provide merchants interested in leveraging mobile traffic with a superior payment platform to ones they may have seen in the past," said Dennis DeLaRosa, president of IPS.
