GUESS deploying iPads to better serve shoppers

GUESS Inc. is using iPads to put its products in front of shoppers by implementing the VeriFone GlobalBay iPad Retailing solution inside a dozen stores in the U.S. The clothing company also plans to expand the deployment widely this year, according to a company press release.

GUESS is using the VeriFone solution to give in-store consumers access to its online and in-store products via iPads mounted on rolling stands serving as kiosks.

"VeriFone's GlobalBay iPad Retailing solution provides GUESS with the flexibility to easily configure, customize and deploy multiple customer engagement capabilities and staff training content on the fly," GUESS executive vice president and CIO Michael Relich, said in the release. "Consumers can access our online resources in the store and sales associates can roll the iPads into the dressing room to visually display options and accessories to make shopping more fulfilling and enjoyable."

The retailing app is powered by a Web-based content management console that allows the retailer to design, brand and manage iPad Apps -- programming skills are not required. Apps deployed via the VeriFone GlobalBay solution sync rich content locally to the device, so users experience an optimized iPad shopping experience. Online connectivity allows for real-time interface to Web-based assets and e-commerce transactions when required.

Within the store, the application allows shoppers and store associates to browse various styles via the LookBook functionality and to select products for either immediate purchase or order online if the product is not available in the store. After hours, the iPad is set up to deliver training videos to store associates and managers.

Outside the store

The application is not only for in-store use. GUESS has deployed the iPad solution to events, including the recent Jingle Ball at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, and on a 6-week road show in Asia that leveraged customer loyalty enrollment in Chinese as well as local sizing explanations and related product imagery.

"Retailers are eager to use the iPad and other mobile devices to realize the promise of multi-channel selling and to more dynamically engage consumers with the full breadth of their products," Jennifer Miles, VeriFone executive vice president, North America, said in the release. "Our iPad Retailing solution provides an innovative and cost-effective means to allow retailers to deploy multiple iPad Apps."
