GrubHub nabs LevelUp for $390M

GrubHub dropped a bit of a news bomb amidst its Q2 financial results, announcing that it had signed an agreement to acquire Boston-based mobile diner engagement and payment solutions provider, LevelUp. Fortune reported that it was a $390 million deal.

"We're also thrilled to announce the LevelUp acquisition," Grubhub founder and CEO Matt Maloney said in a company release. "LevelUp's leading restaurant-facing technology and the team they have built in Boston will help Grubhub provide the most comprehensive solution for restaurants, powering everything from online demand generation to fulfillment for restaurants."

Grubhub said LevelUp's technology will simplify Grubhub's integrations with the nation's top restaurant brands, while also providing more channels to attract and engage diners, and positioning the company to dramatically accelerate product development for valuable restaurant-facing tools.

With LevelUp under its wings, the company will now offer national and independent a comprehensive solution to drive online delivery and pickup orders, from demand generation through fulfillment. LevelUp will also accelerate its existing POS integration capabilities while providing restaurants with powerful customer relationship management and analytical tools to help them drive more diners to their platform and increase volume from existing diners, according to the release.
