Groupon debuts its tablet POS

If new tablet-based terminals from Square and PayPal aren't enough, daily deal provider Groupon has launched a new version of its Breadcrumb POS solution. The iPad app will expand Groupon's footprint from restaurants and bars to include all brick-and-mortar businesses, the company said.

"With this launch we can help every local business replace their outdated cash registers with a modern, affordable, money-saving tool that allows them to save on credit card transaction fees and run their businesses better," said Mihir Shah, VP of merchant OS at Groupon.

Along with launching Breadcrumb POS, Groupon is rebranding its original POS solution — the one aimed at bars and restaurants — as Breadcrumb Pro.

Both solutions come with Breadcrumb Payments to get retailers and restaurants accepting credit and debit cards quickly. The solution also comes with next day deposits, live support and analytics.

Groupon's "hook" as it enters this crowded space is a guarantee of the lowest rates — 1.8 percent plus 15 cents per transaction — as well as free processing for a merchan'ts first $5,000 in Breadcrumb POS transactions.
