Google set to bring Android Pay to India

Google is in talks with the National Payments Corporation of India to integrate Android Pay with the country's Unified Payments Interface, which is regulated by India's central bank.

In fact, Facebook, WhatsApp and Uber are also in discussion to support UPI payments in India, according to multiple reports. UPI supports the instant funds transfer between two bank accounts on a mobile platform.

"Google is testing UPI-enabled payments. The Reserve Bank of India has to look into it. Facebook and WhatsApp are in preliminary talks as well," A.P. Hota, the managing director and chief executive of the National Payments Corporation of India, said in one published report

Google launched Android Pay in March 2015.
