German myTaxi offers passengers a mobile payment option

German company myTaxi is adding mobile payments to its popular car-ordering service by partnering with Wirecard, a payment and digital security provider. Similar to San Francisco-based Uber, myTaxi currently operates in 30 German cities along with Barcelona, Vienna and Zurich.

"myTaxi Payment sets new standards which will once again revolutionize the taxi market. We have found a highly competent partner - Wirecard - to support our new product," commented Niclaus Mewes, myTaxi's co-founder and CEO.

Customers can use the myTaxi app to order a car service to pick them up. The app locates the passenger, routes a car to the passenger's location, and then lets the passenger pay for the ride all through the user's smartphones. There is no additional cost for customers to use myTaxi beyond the cost of the ride.

"Wallets have a mobile future. We are very pleased that we have been able to implement an innovative solution for myTaxi, allowing passengers to pay even more comfortably, cash-free," said Brigitte Häuser-Axtner, Vice President Digital Sales with Wirecard.

Formed in July 2010, myTaxi has had its app downloaded more than 1.7 million times and has partnered with 15,000 registered taxis to provide users with a ride.
