Dutch banks will test mobile payments
Banks in the Netherlands are set to begin a three-month trial of mobile payments.
ABN, Amro, ING and Rabobank, in collaboration with the MasterCard, mobile operator KPN, and the city of Leiden, will include 1,000 consumers and 150 businesses in the project, which begins Sept. 2, according to a news release.
Security transaction provider UL helped with preparation for the soft launch.
Participants will be provided a free Samsung Galaxy Express with their bank's payments app preloaded.
"An extremely varied selection of businesses are taking part, ranging from smaller shops to large retail chains, including department stores, supermarkets, retail outlets and bars and restaurants," the partners said. "NS, the Dutch railway company, and the shops located in the railway station will also participate in the introduction.
"After the introduction period, each bank will determine individually whether, and how, it will offer this form of payment to customers."
