Concert heralds future of concerts without paper tickets

A post on Sky News reports on a concert in New York being billed as the first ever event to provide every single ticket as a text message to attendees' mobile phones. Concert-goers will show their phones at the door of the Billboard Summer Blowout Party where scanners will read barcodes contained in the messages.

Joshua Dziabiak, the founder of ShowClix, a Pittsburgh-based company that provides the ticketing service, told Sky News that having a ticket delivered to a mobile device is a simpler way to handle ticketing.

"It's a lot easier for patrons to remember their tickets," Dziabiak said. The company said using text messages instead of printed tickets will appeal to companies trying to be green.

According to the article, an additional benefit of the new system for venues is the substantial amount of information available on concert-goers who use the system.

"There's a lot potential uses for the technology once you've identified who the people are who are in the audience," said Gary Bongiovanni, editor-in-chief of concert industry publication Pollstar, in the article.

"A few years ago artists would play to a full arena and not have a clue who any of those people were, and today [they have] much more information," Bongiovanni said.
