CloudZync adds Android app to Zwallet

U.K. mobile wallet developer CloudZync has launched an Android app for its Zwallet mobile wallet. Zwallet apps for iOS and Windows Phone devices are also available, CloudZync said.

"By launching on Android, we can now offer one of the largest communities of smartphone users in the U.K. access to a new way to pay," Andrew Smith, CloudZync's co-founder and CTO, said in a statement.

Zwallet is topped up from the owner's bank account and used to pay for purchases at participating online and in-store retailers. The wallet also manages loyalty cards and offers, and can be used to buy and redeem digital gift cards and to send P2P payments.

To pay in-store, the user opens the Zwallet app with a PIN and presses "Pay." A QR code is generated on the phone's screen and scanned by the merchant. The user then presses "Accept" on the phone to complete the transaction. Rewards, deals, vouchers and loyalty points are added automatically to transactions.

For online or mobile shopping transactions, the merchant sends payment information to the customer's mobile phone number. The customer then reviews the bill in Zwallet and accepts the transaction.

Zwallet has a "Near Me" feature that functions as a geo-navigation-based map, highlighting local stores that accept Zwallet payments.

In January 2014, CloudZync added mobile e-gift cards and vouchers to its Zwallet apps, allowing shoppers to buy and redeem digital gift cards and access local deals from U.K. retailers such as Ask, B&Q, Burton, The Body Shop and Zizzi.
