Bitcoin's value has soared beyond the $9,000 mark, currently sitting at $9,273 at the time of this story. The cryptocurrency has not reached this level since May 2018, according to a report by CNBC.

Bitcoin's total value is up by 140% since the beginning of 2019, after falling by 70% throughout 2018.

This boost comes after news that Facebook is set to launch its cryptocurrency called Libra this week. The social media giant has already secured backing from companies such as Visa, Mastercard and Paypal for the token.
