Spain-based BBVA is establishing a digital banking division as it attempts to bolster its development of mobile and online banking products, the bank said in a press release.

Carlos Torres Vila, who joined the bank in 2008 as head of strategy and corporate development, will lead the division that will be responsible for developing new business lines, continued development of money-transfer mobile application Wizzo and working with the bank's recent acquisition in Simple.

"Customers are changing the way they relate to their banks, and BBVA is anticipating this change. The new structure will allow us to respond better to today's customers and to those of tomorrow," Angel Cano, the bank's COO, said in a press release.
