AT&T to accept cryptocurrency payments through BitPay for mobile service

AT&T Inc. now accepts virtual currency for online bill payments through BitPay, making it the first major mobile carrier to offer a cryptocurrency payment option.

"We're always looking for ways to improve and expand our services," Kevin McDorman, vice president of AT&T finance business operations, said in an announcement posted on the AT&T website. "We have customers who use cryptocurrency and we are happy we can offer them a way to pay their bills with the method they prefer."

Customers paying their mobile bill through the AT&T  website or the myAT&T mobile app can select BitPay as an option, according to the company.

A spokesperson for BitPay told Mobile Payments Today via email that AT&T customers don’t need to sign up with BitPay to make these crypto payments, they only need a bitcoin wallet.
