Apple has recently applied to patent a system that lets users "gift" media content from iTunes and their own library to other iOS device owners, Apple Insider reports. The transactions would be facilitated by near-field communication.

Apple's plans regarding NFC are a topic of high interest in the mobile payments space. Currently, the iOS platform lacks NFC, and the company has said little about whether it will add it to subsequent versions.
