Adobe says mobile shopping reaches new record of $33.3B before final weekend push

Adobe Analytics said that smartphone transactions during the holiday shopping season reached a new record of $33.3 billion from the Nov. 1 to Dec.19th period, according to a new release. Sales from mobile devices this season reached a record 58 percent and mobile transactions have risen 57 percent from a year-ago.

Adobe said that consumers are increasingly buying online and picking up in-store, with BOPIS shopping rising a record 47 percent from the prior-year period.

Shopping on mobile devices surged as 50 percent of online shopping was on smartphones, with another 8.3 percent on tablets, representing 58.3 percent of overall site visits. Mobile shopping overall is up 19.5 percent year-over-year and represents 39 percent of revenue.

"Weary shoppers continue to look for alternatives to crowded stores, long lines and empty shelves in the final push to Christmas," Taylor Schreiner, director, Adobe Digital Insights, said in the announcement.
