UK bus operator to accept Pingit mobile payments

First West Yorkshire is one of the first transportation companies to enable fares purchased with Barclays' app.

A regional bus operator in the U.K. announced it will let riders pay for fares through the Barclays Pingit mobile-payment app, according to a local report.

First West Yorkshire is one of the first transporation companies in the U.K. to enable fares purchased with Pingit, which Barclays first introduced in early 2012. "Our partnership with Barclays puts First at the forefront of bus ticketing technology and reflects our commitment to grasp ever more innovative ways to make bus travel better, easier and more convenient," Paul Matthews, managing director of First West Yorkshire, told the Halifax Courier

First West Yorkshire earlier this year introduced a mobile ticketing service that enables riders to use their smartphone to store purchased fare, according to the report.
