Twitter shuts down another payment provider

It's hard to depend on Twitter if you want to use it as a platform for payments. After shutting down payment provider Ribbon last week, Twitter has now taken issue with Flattr, a social payment provider that lets members send and receive payments simply by liking or "favoriting" a post on social media networks like Twitter.

Unfortunately for Flattr, Twitter didn't like what it was up to. In a post on the company blog, Flattr said that Twitter found the payment service to be in violation its API terms. According to the company, Flattr tried to work with Twitter to figure out a solution, but none was forthcoming.

"We have tried to suggest different solutions asking for an exception to the terms, even foregoing our cut, etc., without any result," the company said. Flattr said it won't give up completely, but for now the company is forced to remove the ability to support creators.

"We are working on other ways to support creators on Twitter, and will keep the discussions going with Twitter towards a more acceptable resolution," the company said.
