Square has updated its Square Wallet application for Android and iOS devices. Now users can send Square gift cards directly from the electronic receipt they receive from Square-accepting merchants.

Gift cards came to Square back in December, giving merchants the ability to offer and redeem electronic gift cards. It was a simpler way for merchants to add a gift card program, eliminating the need for a third-party provider.

As with the earlier gift card offering, a smart byproduct of letting customers send gift cards from the app is that non-Square using recipients must download the app to get their gift.
