Yandex Money, which is considered the equivalent of PayPal in Russia, announced it added a contactless payment feature to its Android mobile app via near field communication technology, according to a press release.

Current Yandex users need to update the app on their phones to activate the new feature. The user will then receive a virtual MasterCard that will be linked to the Yandex Money accout. 

Yandex said in the announcement it added a payments feature as a result of current market trends in Russia. The company noted a recent Gemalto survey that found more than 60 percent of consumers between the ages of 16 and 35 would like to start using NFC mobile payments.
