Norway's Telenor Group embraces direct carrier billing

Mobile Embrace Limited signs agreement with major telecom that boasts 176 million subscribers.

Mobile Embrace Limited, a mobile payments and mobile marketing company, today announced it has signed a global framework agreement with Norway's Telenor Group to provide direct carrier billing for Telenor Group mobile subscribers, according to a press release.

Telenor Group is one of the world's major mobile operators, with 176 million mobile subscriptions, according to the announcement. It has mobile operations in 13 markets across the Nordic region, Central and Eastern Europe and in Asia. Telenor had 2013 revenues of NOK 104 billion ($16.9 billion U.S.) and has approximately 33,000 employees.

Under the framework agreement an annex will cover each market once assessed and agreed for launch. Terms will remain confidential, according to the announcement.

Mobile Embrace will bring Telenor Group customers mobile-optimized products and services across a range of verticals, and the ability to pay with direct carrier billing, according to the press release.

Customer acquisition, management and billing will be powered by Mobile Embrace's digital distribution network — through its Media Trading Desk that buys and manages mobile advertising in real time — and Mobile Embrace's Customer Management Platform that integrates mobile billing with digital products and services.

"Mobile Embrace's integrated marketing, product and payment platforms in conjunction with Telenor's outstanding global reach, greatly increases the strength of our digital distribution network across a number of territories where mobile payments are forecast for the strongest growth," Neil Wiles, managing director and co-founder of Mobile Embrace Limited, said in the announcement. "We are encouraged by this progress in our measured global expansion. Direct carrier billing is highly efficient and becoming more and more accessible, working for both consumers and digital product owners alike. It makes it convenient for consumers to purchase and easier for product owners to monetize seamlessly."
