LevelUp intros physical and digital gift cards

Mobile payments company LevelUp today announced the launch of a gift card feature, according to a press release. Businesses can enroll in the program starting today. The gift cards themselves will be available in stores in the next couple of weeks.

LevelUp will enable merchants to sell physical gift cards at brick-and-mortar locations and digital cards within the LevelUp app, according to the announcement. 

The physical gift cards will have unique QR codes on them merchants can activate with any amount a consumer would like to load into the prepaid account. LevelUp delivers the digital gift cards using digital "giftwrap" in an email to the to the recipient. Recipients can either redeem the card by scanning the gift card in-store at the LevelUp scanner, or they can link the card to their LevelUp account.

"Gift cards have long been the most requested feature from both consumers and businesses using LevelUp," Seth Priebatsch, Chief Ninja of LevelUp, said in a statement. "As we continue to build out features for businesses on the LevelUp platform, we're excited to finally be rolling out gift cards."

LevelUp's gift card feature will be available to business for $50 per location, per month. LevelUp's 1.95 percent processing rate will also apply to gift card sales. Businesses can design their own custom cards and use their own fulfillment partners, or have LevelUp produce the cards for them, according to the announcement.
