Ingenico preps merchants for EMV migration with new products

The point-of-sale provider announced two new additions to its line of products to help retailers and restaurants ease into chip card acceptance.

Ingenio this past week made two announcements at the ETA Transact 15 conference that help merchants transition to EMV card acceptance while adding the ability to also accept mobile payments from Apple Pay and Google Wallet.

Ingenico launched what it calls the first and only PCI PTS 4.0 and SRED-certified mobile card reader equipped to accept both EMV and magstripe card payments, as well as NFC/contactless payments, according to a press release. The Ingenico RP450c can be attached to a mobile device via audio jack, or used as a separate Bluetooth companion or in docking station mode.

Ingenico also released a new pay-at-table product that enables restaurants and and others to process EMV and NFC/contactless transactions tableside.

Ingenico said it designed the mobile card reader to improve the customer checkout experience by preventing rotation and incorporating a full-width smartcard slot and long magnetic-stripe guide to ensure a high success rate.

“Merchants want options when it comes to EMV and NFC," David Szczepanski, COO at Ingenico Mobile Solutions, said in a statement. "With the RP450c, Ingenico Mobile Solutions now provides the first and only mPOS solution that enables acceptance of all payment types with the most flexible connection options."

As for the pay-at-the-table product, Ingenico said it would offer a Bluetooth and Wi-Fi option to restaurants.

"With the EMV liability shift and growing popularity of mobile wallets, merchants in the hospitality industry need to think differently about how they accept payment directly at the table," said Gregory Boardman, senior vice president of product and development for Ingenico Group in North America. "This new Wi-Fi enabled addition to our iWL series ensures that Ingenico Group can meet the needs of any merchant that wants to implement a Pay-at-the-Table strategy, and in turn ensure EMV compliance."
