HSBC enables businesses to use Paym

Some 600,000 business accountholders now have the ability to sign up and use the service to receive payments from their customers.

HSBC last week made the person-to-person mobile payment service Paym available to its business customers, according to multiple reports. The U.K. Payments Council launched Paym earlier this year and it was initially meant for consumer use.

Some 600,000 HSBC business accountholders now have the ability to sign up and use the service to receive payments from their customers. 

Businesses can enable up to 50 mobile devices to receive payments, according to HSBC. The bank said it will consider adding business-to-business and business-to-consumer payments through Paym in the future.

"Paym offers a convenient way for businesses, from local shops to tradespeople, to get paid by their customers — and HSBC is offering them 50 different mobile numbers to register to their accounts." James Cliffe, HSBC's head of business banking, said in a statement.

Paym debuted nationwide in April and some 1.6 million consumers have registered their mobile numbers for the the service. Users have sent more than 15 million pounds ($24 million) through it.
