FIS makes mobile deposit capture possible for Bluebird users

With its selection of FIS to provide remote deposit capture on mobile devices, Bluebird is offering its consumers an even more "bank-like" experience.

Bluebird is the American Express prepaid account available through Walmart stores. The program is intended as an alternative to traditional debit and checking accounts, as well as to other prepaid accounts that charge monthly fees or fees for use.

"Consumers are increasingly mobile and tech-savvy and constantly seek convenience. They want the option to perform any financial or purchasing transaction with a mobile phone," said Gary Norcross, president and COO of FIS. "We recognized the opportunity to offer a mobile solution that brings more secure, self-service capabilities to consumers and we're excited that American Express has teamed with FIS to support its innovative Bluebird offering."

When launched last month, Bluebird had a large mobile component, offering mobile bill payment, but the new remote deposit capture means users can also add funds to their Bluebird accounts using only a mobile device.

"Our strategy is to provide consumers with convenient and easy-to-use payment products that best fit the way they want to make purchases and payments," said Alpesh Chokshi, president of global payment options at American Express. "FIS' mobile check capture solution provides our customers with a simple and convenient way to load funds in their accounts, right from their smartphones."
