Finland's OP-Pohjola Group and Monitise in mPOS partnership

The Finnish banking group OP-Pohjola Group is to launch a multi-language mPOS service in partnership with London-based Monitise. The mPOS service, targeted at OP-Pohjola's small business and merchant customers, is the first of its kind in Finland, according to the bank.

Monitise will offer its mPOS payments technology as a white-labeled service to OP-Pohjola in a three-year partnership. The service will be available initially across iOS and Android platforms, and in Finnish, Swedish and English.

OP-Pohjola said the new service will let its small business and merchant customers take card payments and view recent transactions via mobile devices. Its merchant customers will also be able to generate digital tax credit receipts to reclaim up to half of the value of qualifying invoices as part of a Finnish government-backed scheme.

The OP-Pohjola Group, which comprises 200 cooperative bank members plus the OP-Pohjola Group Central Cooperative and its subsidiaries, is the largest bank in Finland.

Monitise said the 24 million users of its technology worldwide account for $50 billion worth of payments, purchases and transfers annually.
