Buy Game Credit, txtNation pair up to enable mobile payments for Xbox games

The direct carrier billing and messaging company txtNation has a new arrangement with BuyGameCredit.com that lets the gaming company accept mobile payments for Xbox points and Gold Memberships.

According to a news release from txtNation, the points can be used to purchase Microsoft Xbox games — a quasi-physical product that has typically been sold in a physical retail environment.

Working with mobile network operators, txtNation said, it negotiated lower transaction fees after discussing this specific business case, allowing Buy Game Credit to remain competitive.

Under the arrangement, Buy Game Credit can provide a mobile payment option through its website and mobile site via direct carrier billing across several countries, connecting to the txtNation Gateway APIs to power in-site purchasing.

The new payment method launched first in Sweden and Norway. Buy Game Credit surveyed its customers and found that 93 percent said they will only buy their Xbox points through mobile payments, according to the release.

"This is an exciting new service, which has been made possible by our close relationships with the mobile network operators," Danny Marino, txtNation's chief business development officer, said in the release. "Buy Game Credit's research has shown there is an appetite for mobile payments among gamers."
