Commentary: And the 'Best Mobile Payment' Appster goes to...

Nov. 8, 2012

The Appster awards were a new part of the program at this year’s Apps World, the global mobile developer conference held last month in London, England. It was an opportunity to provide recognition to the innovative applications in use today.  Awards were handed out across 12 categories from 70 nominated apps.  The focus of my interest was in the mobile payments apps that were in contention this year.

The payment apps nominated at Apps World stood out for their ease of use, security, payment options and innovation. Here is a look at the companies nominated for the Best Mobile Payment App at Apps World 2012:

Corethree's mobile payment solution is a universal payment hub for retailers across any industry, using any payment means and with customers using a wide range of mobile devices. The user experience is simple and quick, involving one-time registration and secure transaction processing for great customer adoption. Corethree works with many U.K. brands and consumers who can browse local listings of retailers, purchase transport tickets, donate to charity and much more.

PayWizard - Spring Digital Agency

PayWizard is an end-to-end solution designed to monetize multi-screen media.  The solution has a range of payment options for media and broadcast systems and services. PayWizard’s consumer account allows for flexible payment types, single-click purchase, regular subscriptions, vouchers etc. On top of secure payment fulfillment, they also provide effective monetization through data collection, marketing tools and reports on various promotions and campaigns.

Mvelopes Mobile Bill Pay

The Mvelopes bill payment app allows consumers to log in and access an  envelope and account information on-the-go using an iPhone or Android smartphone.  It allows users to pay bills from mobile devices, transfer money from one bank to another quickly and easily and also schedule a bill payment ahead of time right from a phone.

Karmaloop - Xtreme Labs

Karmaloop’s app created by Xtreme Labs allows customers to shop from over 500 top brands through Karmaloop’s ultimate in-app shopping experience.  It provides a gallery carousel to see the item from various angles, discount codes only available through the app, share purchases through social media and process orders through streamlined check-outs.

Ster-Kinekor - Prezence Digital

The Ster-Kinekor Theatres (based in Africa) app created by Prezence Digital allows consumers to view trailers, filter cinemas by location, show movie start times, browse listings by genre and, most importantly, purchase tickets easily using an interactive seating plan.  With more and more consumers making entertainment decisions based on online and mobile media, having an app with real m-commerce functionality helps build brand loyalty and provide flexibility in having payment methods for customers in a manner that suits their lifestyle and preferences.

Tatty Devine - POQ Studio LTD

The Tatty Devine shopping app lets users browse and shop the Tatty Devine collection on the go. POQ Studio creates retail apps for mostly fashion, jewellery, and beauty companies.  The mobile commerce app provides a product catalogue, shopping card, and built-in checkout features to make for an easy purchasing experience. The mobile checkout remembers the shopper’s information between each order and accepts payment via credit cards and PayPal.  The POQ Studio apps also provide a marketing tool with targeted discount offers, brand messages, and push notifications showcasing special offers and new inventor

The winner of the best Mobile Payment App was: CardEase Mobile by Creditcall.

CardEase Mobile – Creditcall

CardEase Mobile, developed by CreditCall Ltd, fulfils all card scheme requirements including Visa, MasterCard and American Express to provide a secure and reliable mobile solution. It won the Appsters Award for Best Payment App as it has a commercially available mobile card acceptance solution for smartphones and tablets which preserves the familiar experience of chip-and-PIN with all the security benefits that it provides. CreditCall and its current partners firmly believe that just because merchants are mobile is no reason why they should expect a lesser standard of security or protection against fraud and chargebacks. Most importantly CardEase Mobile gives businesses on the move a real solution to increase their revenue as they can accept card payments and improve cash flow without having to chase payments anymore. It consists of a payment app for Android and BlackBerry smartphones and tablets (an Apple solution is coming soon) working with a Bluetooth-enabled chip card reader. Banks, acquirers and processors worldwide are white-labelling CardEase Mobile including Elavon and Sage Pay in the U.K. and Ireland.

"In a really strong field, CardEase Mobile stood out for its innovation and its clear focus on facilitating effective payments for businesses of all size," said Matt Henkes, editor in chief of TelecomsTech and a panel judge of the Appster Awards. "Congratulations to CreditCall for an excellent product."
