(Smart) Watch this Space
The idea of having a computer one could wear is not new. The concept of wearable technology has existed in speculative fiction like Star Trek’s wrist communicator and Goldfinger’s homing beacon shoe. Nevertheless, as common place devices like phones take on more sophisticated tasks, some developers have moved on to other spaces to roll their smart technology, namely the user’s wrist, in the case of smartwatches and fitness bands. While tech companies have attempted to introduce wearables for other parts of the body, such as Google Glass, the wrist seems to be where most wearable manufacturers are focused.
