FIS announced the launch of Open Banking Hub through its Worldpay from FIS business. The new technology allows shoppers to make payments to online merchants directly from their personal bank account, without having to enter payment data through a third-party site.

The Open Banking Hub connects merchants directly to mobile banking sites of their customers and allows customers to make the purchase directly through their banking app and see the account balance in real time.

"As consumers will see their account balance before and after the transaction it enables them to control their spending," Charles Damen, head of product strategy, Worldpay Merchant Solutions, said via email. "There are also significant benefits for merchants such as reduced fraud, as strong customer authentication is applied on every transaction, no chargebacks and instant refunds capability to customers and reduced cost of processing."

The service is currently available in the U.K. and is being rolled out across Europe.
