Wincor, eServGlobal showcase integrated mobile money solution

Wincor Nixdorf and mobile money specialist eServGlobal are using this week's Mobile World Congress to spotlight their new and extended concepts that let unbanked consumers deposit, withdraw or transfer money through ATMs using just their mobile phones.

A study by McKinsey found that 360 million people worldwide already use mobile money accounts. According to GSMA, the global association of mobile operators, more than 264,000 mobile money agents worldwide offer services such as loading credit onto mobile devices, as well as accepting, transferring or dispensing money and settling bills.

Service providers must rely on a widespread and well-trained agent network in order to create and operate the infrastructure for a mobile money service. According to Wincor and eServGlobal, ATM solutions play a vital role in mobile money deployment by increasing accessibility for users and alleviating liquidity management issues for the service provider.

"The integration of ATMs is an important part of a comprehensive mobile money solution," said Paolo Montessori, CEO of eServGlobal. "The ATM solutions from Wincor Nixdorf shown at the MWC would be an asset to mobile money service providers worldwide. They provide an open and standardized interface to eServGlobal's mobile money platform, bringing advantages in terms of speed and security. eServGlobal will continue to work closely with Wincor Nixdorf to integrate its extensive ATM portfolio with our mobile money solutions."

Wincor Nixdorf said the company will target the customer segment of mobile money operators with tailor-made technology, including a server/client-based solution and multi-function ATMs.

"The systems from the ProCash product family, which not only dispense cash, but also accept it by means of an integrated deposit module and check it for forgeries, have been specially developed for growth markets," said Alvin Ng, a senior vice president at Wincor Nixdorf. "Along with our banking know-how, they make a key contribution to giving people in growth regions access to financial services."
