Wendy's pilots mobile payment feature in its app

Quick service restaurant Wendy's is piloting a new mobile payment option in three markets, according to a story in Mobile Commerce Daily. My Wendy's app users in Portland, Ore., Austin, Texas, and Albuquerque, N.M., can use the application to pay for their orders at the register.

Unlike payment applications using QR codes or NFC, the mobile payment feature in the My Wendy's app creates a one-time use numeric code that customers give to the cashier at the time of purchase. The code is tied to a payment account — such as a credit or gift card — which is debited for the purchase amount.

According to the story, Wendy's is also offering user discounts and rewards to entice consumer trial of mobile payments.

Screenshots and full details of the program are available at Mobile Commerce Daily.
